The Story of Us...

HOW I WENT FROM GRADUATE MARINE BIOLOGIST TO OWNING A CRAFT SUPPLIES BUSINESS IN LESS THAN A YEAR.

For those who don't know the face behind Neon Palms - I'm Sophie! Welcome to my little craft haven. It's hard to believe my little Neon Palms is nearly 18 months old now, but here is our story from conception to now....

WHY NEON PALMS?

Why Neon Palms? Well, Neon Palms came from a small flat in Newcastle, where me and my partner had isolated in a (very small) apartment for 6 months during Covid-19. We were both in our final year of our Marine Biology degrees, and we had lost the jobs we had lined up due to restrictions on international travel. Basically life wasn't feeling like it was on our side at that point.  After finishing my degree I moved home and bought a Cricut Maker (thanks dad for the best birthday gift!) and started crafting.  I was still working in my retail job and I was churning out handmade baby clothes, signs and more on my Etsy.  I absolutely loved it, and over Christmas sold over 400 Santa Sacks and I was blown away.

HOW DID YOU GET HERE?

I, like most crafters, spent A LOT of time on social media envying all the products our cousins across the pond had access to. I felt totally deprived to only have Hobbycraft to go visit, and I lusted over Teckwrap, Starcraft, Michaels, Joanns and Target. I mean, I could get ahold of Teckwrap on Amazon but the colours back then were black, white or one opal colour and I was desperate for more choice. So I contacted Teckwrap and placed my first wholesale order with them, I had no customers, I had no idea what it would become, and I had absolutely no idea I would be the one to bring this craze to the UK and the phenomenal response it would get. When I cherry picked what I wanted to keep from the delivery I posted it on a Cricut Facebook Page and it sold out in an hour which was INSANE. Since then we have become the biggest and most trusted Teckwrap retailer - and have brought over 75 of the Teckwrap colours to the UK market. Since then we have made it a mission to bring wider products to the UK cutting machine craft market, so we too can have a large range of products to try.

WHAT NEXT?

Now Neon Palms Craft is focused on the development and cultivation of small handmade businesses, helping them to grow and prosper. We still provide amazing products for small businesses to use and resell, all of which are tested by our Crafting Team, but now we are working on a series of helpful videos, tutorials and a handmade business course/blog to help you iron out the kinks of owning a small business in this space!  So don't forget to keep an eye on us and our social media so you know when our articles go live! Thank you so much for being part of our crafty community and I hope to see you soon!
